One person makes Conatus and reads every message. English or Russian is fine. Please tell me your iPhone model, your iOS version and the Conatus version (Settings → On this device). Never send your API key or a backup file: nobody needs them to help you.
Questions
How do I back up my record?
Open Settings → Export backup. Conatus saves everything in one file, conatus-backup-YYYY-MM-DD.json. Save it to iCloud Drive or another place you trust. Settings shows how long it has been since your last export.
The app also keeps a copy by itself in Files → On My iPhone → Conatus. That copy lives on the same phone, so it goes away if you delete the app or lose the phone. Only a file you exported and saved elsewhere survives those.
Your AI key is never part of a backup.
How do I move to a new iPhone?
- On the old phone: Settings → Export backup, and save the file to iCloud Drive (or AirDrop it to the new phone).
- On the new phone: install Conatus, then open Settings → Import backup → Choose backup file and pick that file.
- Check that your days are there in History. Then add your AI key again, if you use one: keys never travel in a backup.
Import replaces whatever is on the new phone. If you imported the wrong file, Restore the data from before the last import in the same place undoes it.
Keep the app on the old phone until the new one shows your record. Deleting the app deletes its data.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. iOS removes its storage, the automatic copy included. The developer holds no copy, so no deletion request is needed.
Backup files you exported stay where you saved them. Delete those yourself.
To delete one day, open it and tap Delete entry, then tap again to confirm. To remove the example days, use Settings → Remove the example days.
If you used the AI summary, the provider that received it deletes it through its own process: Anthropic’s privacy policy, OpenAI’s privacy policy.
How does the AI key work?
AI is optional, and asking needs no key. In the Mirror, Ask in ChatGPT or Claude puts your question and the days you pick into one text and opens the share sheet. You send it from the AI app you use, and Conatus itself sends nothing.
With your own key, Conatus sends the request for you. Create an API key in your own Anthropic Console or OpenAI Platform account, then paste it into Settings → AI with your own key. Anthropic keys start with sk-ant-, OpenAI keys with sk-.
With a key, the Mirror answers inside the app (Answer here with my key), and History offers an AI summary on weeks and months. Before the first send, the app shows what it will send and to whom, and sends nothing until you agree. The request goes straight from your phone to the provider, and no developer server sits in between.
Your key pays for it: Opus costs a few cents a summary, Sonnet about a cent, Haiku under a cent. The provider bills your own account, and an account with no credit gets no summary.
The key stays on this device only, never in backups or exports. Remove key in Settings withdraws your consent and stops every send.
Is Conatus free?
Yes. No purchases, no subscription, no ads, no tracking. If paid extras arrive one day, nothing that is free today gets locked.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Everything works without a connection except the AI features.
The full rules on what leaves your phone are in the privacy policy.
